Airnorth Cable Beach Polo was held on May 20&21

Competition was fierce as three teams of highly skilled polo players thrashed and collided over the weekend on Broome's world-famous Cable Beach for the Paspaley Australiasian Beach Polo Cup.

 

Featuring forty-seven majestic ponies travelling over 2000km from Perth to compete, the event attracted a standard of hard fought play not yet seen in this part of the world before.

 

Merchant Shipping’s team featuring Zac Johnson, Hugo Fischer and Tex Webster deservedly won the Paspaley Australiasian Beach Polo Cup after battling the Bunnamagoo Estate Wines team every step of the way.

Clinton Wheatley, Jack Archibald and Matt Welsh representing Bunnamagoo Estate Wines clinched the Broome International Airport Cup.

 

More than a thousand people attended the marquees over the two days and hundreds more watched from the prestine sands of the spectacular beach.

 

Fashionably-dressed guests in beach appropriate attire that raised the meaning of smart casual.  enjoyed French champagne and canapes in the luxury VIP marquee.

 

Special guests including Australian television's Sunrise sports presenter Mark Beretta, described the whole weekend as “extraordinary” and Cable Beach Polo as “iconic”.

Celebrations continued late on Sunday with the spectacular after-party at Matso’s.

 

Other highlights from the weekend included sand sculpting on Cable Beach with renowned Australian sand sculptor Peter Redmond and live performances from Sneaky Sound System’s DJ Daimon Downey and singer Chelsea Basham.
